Have a Flutter with Fordy: Rory's Racing Preview 05/08/17
A slightly later upload to the website after a night out at Bath races. Some good winners and plenty of drinks. The final day of Goodwood provides more good betting opportunities. This evening out does mean it is a slightly reduced number of tips. However next week will see the return of the successful golf tips and more horses to get involved with.
Sir Dancealot the one to beat in the Stewards Cup
Sir Dancealot enters the Stewards Cup at Goodwood as one of the most unexposed horses in the field. Whilst it is a very competitive race it is interesting to see a horse who had strong two-year-old form carry such a low weight in a race of this nature. His current 11/1 price is very fair and he could have a big chance.
His jockey Ryan Moore is fresh off winners on Friday and could add another big win to his week. His two-year-old form includes a win over Saturdays distance of six furlongs and includes some reasonable form over longer trips. Included in this is a run in the Racing Post Trophy which is a premium two-year-old race.
Carrying such a low weight on Saturday should give him an advantage and he looks very unexposed. He was second in the Banbury Cup last time out and whilst that was over a one furlong longer trip I do believe the drop back in trip will pose no problem. With the current soft ground, an ability to get further like he does is no negative.
Saigon City could be a could bet in Goodwood 2:25
Saigon City enters the race as an 8/1 shot and could be well worth a bet. He is one of the more confirmed stayers in the field which is certainly needed in current conditions. He is a very progressive horse and I am taking him to continue this improvement on Saturday.
Declan Carroll has had some good winners this season given his slightly small reputation and a win at Glorious Goodwood would be fantastic. Saigon City has plenty of strong staying form including a fifth in last season’s Northumberland Plate. Form such as this should give him an excellent chance on Saturday.
When last seen he won a small field handicap but I do believe he could have even more to offer in these bigger fields. A lot of the competition are unconfirmed stayers which is no such worry for our selection. That win last time out also came on soft ground which is a plus given the rain which has fallen at Goodwood lately.
In Summary -
Goodwood - 3.35 - Sir Dancealot - 11/1
Goodwood - 2.25 - Saigon City - 8/1
