US Masters 2018 Preview

US Masters 2018 Preview

One of the best weekends in the sporting calendar is on the horizon and it’s one of my favourite events to place a bet on; Augusta National provides one of the best tests in golf and every player in the field will be fighting hard to win the famous green jacket come Sunday. Here I will break down my selections for this year’s tournament.

Justin ROse.jpg

Justin Rose - 14/1 (Bet365, William Hill, Ladbrokes and Betfred)

After going down to Sergio Garcia in a playoff last year, I am backing the Englishman to get his hands on the main prize this year. A terrific ball striker who has already shown he is capable of winning a major (as evidenced by his US Open victory in 2013). At times Rose can lack the fire power with the short stick but he will give himself a lot of chances and I believe he will go very close this week.

He has three top ten placements in his last five events and looks ready to return to the winners circle. Rose started well last week but admitted he didn't quite putt well enough on the weekend to compete, however being back at Augusta might just be the small margin needed to see Rose go low. Combine all of the above with a brilliant record at The Masters and he looks sure to go close.

Bubba Watson - 16/1 (Bet365, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Betfred, Betfair and BetVictor)

There are not many players heading into this week with better form than Bubba Watson and two recent victories will see him come in with massive confidence. The huge hitter is a former two time winner and is more than capable of making it three. He has been extremely well backed over the last few weeks after his terrific form.

He simply blew the competition away in the WGC Match Play and whilst The Masters is a completely different test I hold no fears for Bubba back in stroke play. His length off the tee means the four par 5s around Augusta provide a great chance of picking up birdies and even eagles. Whilst he was available at much bigger odds just a few weeks ago, I feel like he is one to have on side this week.

Matt Kuchar.jpg

Matt Kuchar - 50/1 (Ladbrokes, Bet365 and Betfred)

One of the nearly men in golf; 'Kuch' is simply a great each way bet this week. He so often features on the first page of the leaderboard without being able to win. He would be one of the most popular winners if he could win this week and his second place finish at the 2017 Open shows that he still has the game to compete in majors.

Kuchar's last two events have yielded two top ten finishes and he comes here in good form. I think that 50/1 is a fair price and he's one for the shortlist.

Thomas Pieters - 70/1 (Betfred)

The big hitting Belgian is the final man on the shortlist. The 2016 Ryder Cup star could be set for a big year and that could begin this week. He made his first Masters appearance last year and finished tied for fourth place. With that extra experience on the course he could be primed for a big week.
